I love a good vintage poster. And like the stork says, its always good to get advice during pregnancy if you are worried. In this blogpost I share my experience of how I found homeopathy helped me during my own pregnancy and childbirth.

My experience of homeopathy, pregnancy and childbirth

I was 28 when I first became pregnant and I had terrible morning sickness. Well to be fair it was all day and all night sickness. I tried everything: the doctor, ginger tea, acupuncture, staying in bed, not staying in bed, eating, not eating. None of it worked! I lost weight and couldn’t even keep the herb tea down. I was desperate to feel well enough to enjoy my pregnancy. By 5 months I was exhausted.

Then a friend recommended a homeopath she had used. I thought homeopathy was for ladies who lunch and was at best placebo for gullible people. But I was desperate with nothing to lose so somewhat reluctantly I went to see this lady . It turned out to be pretty enjoyable – I loved talking about myself, being actually listened to and all her really interesting questions At the end of the session she gave me a little dropper bottle. It was filled with weird named things that I was to take 3 drops of every morning and evening. I woke up the next day, after one dose, without morning sickness for the first time. I was amazed!

So that was the start of me discovering Homeopathy. I used it throughout the rest of my pregnancy, for headaches, heartburn, pains in my pelvic bone, and to avoid pre-eclampsia. (The midwives told me my blood pressure was getting troublingly high and my homeopath helped with remedies). At each point in my pregnancy I consulted my GP, midwives and the homeopath.

Homeopathy childbirth kit

As I got into the 8th month of my pregnancy she told me I could rent a Helios childbirth kit from her. I had no idea what that she meant. She showed me a lightweight yellow box (pictured below) with 18 little bottles and an instruction leaflet. It was so cute and as she talked I realised that this was something I and my partner could use before and during my labour . Really, I was sold on the little tiny bottles! I took it home and began reading all the things it could help with. Fear and anxiety, stabilising my contractions, pain, feeling weak and tired, to mention just a few.

I began reading the booklet and getting to know the remedies. My braxton hicks contractions, fear and anxiety and exhaustion/sleeplessness were all successfully self-prescribed. I loved it and it worked.

Plus- it kept my partner busy and out of trouble during childbirth because he was busy reading about the remedies! I’ve also attended several births with the kit since being a homeopath and it helped there too.

Useful for pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborns

For serious medical conditions such as miscarriage or eclampsia, please call your doctor or midwife immediately. The homeopathic remedies can be taken with traditional pharmaceuticals or after surgery.
